PHP (recursive acronym of "PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor", hyperprocessor preprocessor, originally acronym for "Personal Home Page") is an interpreted scripting language, originally conceived for the programming of dynamic web pages. The PHP interpreter is free software distributed under the PHP License.
Currently it is mainly used to develop server-side web applications, but it can also be used to write command line scripts or stand-alone applications with a graphical interface.
