PrestaShop

PrestaShop is an open source CMS used to build e-commerce sites.

Born in 2007 and, unlike the more "generic" CMS released at the time of its first release (WordPress and Joomla!), Prestashop is entirely designed for the development and management of e-commerce.

Prestashop themes exploit the Smarty template engine, which allows a clear separation between content, graphics and programming. Thanks to this approach, the web designer can take care of the site graphics working on the template and CSS files, while the developer can intervene on the PHP files (in fact the official documentation is divided into two distinct sections, one for web designers and one for developers).

The simple and intuitive user interface, and the modular system (to implement a feature just install the relevant module), have made Prestashop one of the most widespread CMS for e-commerce and used by both professionals and newcomers.

Around Prestashop there is a very active community, especially in France and Spain, which contributes to the constant improvement of the software and to the development of modules to implement always new functionalities.

It is translated into various languages.
